A New Unit On American Government!
September 22nd, 2008 @ 2:28 am

It’s been so busy around here and we are done with one unit study and on to another one all about American Government.  The kids thought this would be boring but it is fun and interesting as it is a unit study with an interactive CD and websites that they can explore.  We are getting ready for Fall and the weather is trying to cool down a bit in the evenings and in the mornings.  I can’t wait for October and the cooler weather to come along with it.  Happy first day of Autumn!!!

Finishing our Unit on the Great Depression.
September 5th, 2008 @ 1:18 pm

We went on a field trip to St. Vincent De Paul’s Food Kitchen to help feed the homeless for our field trip to finish up our unit on the Great Depression.  This was the second time the we did this service but the last time it was at a family shelter and this time it was more of the homeless type folks.  Some of them were scared, some felt wierd, but we all felt it was the right thing to do especially in the tough times of today.  We have learned so much studying these past times and the kids are seeing that history is repeating itself in more way ways than one!  They are learning, growing, and maturing right before my eyes. I am proud to be a homeschooling mom that has the freedom to teach my children and instill values into them as well.

Oh the Lord will provide!
August 28th, 2008 @ 10:58 pm

The transmission in our Ford 350 truck went out last night so that means no camping this weekend and a huge repair bill.  The estimate was from $2,000.00-2,300.00 ouch!  I guess our unit study on the hard times of the depression have some similarities with the times of today.  I will keep the faith that the Lord will provide as he always does.

A great week in the Great Depression!
August 28th, 2008 @ 10:35 pm

We are doing a unit study on the Great Depression and even though the kids think this is very sad they are learning so much.  We just finished reading A Year Down Yonder and are now reading Moonshiner’s Son.  Last Saturday, my son Dylan asked me  if we could read our story together, ON A SATURDAY! Now that was so cool!  We are comparing how the times today and the times of the depression are alike. We are learning about past presidents like Hoover and Roosevelt.  We are learning about terrible people like Hitler and what he did to the poor Jews. My kids just can’t believe what all happened to the races back then.  It has been a tough week but a great week! I thank God I can have the freedom to homeschool my children!

A Beauiful Weekend!
August 24th, 2008 @ 11:04 am

Today we went to a homeschool family swim party at a very fun pool with diving boards, a big slide, etc.  The kids had a blast and it was fun to talk with the other families who share so many of the same values we do. We then had a b-day party and had fun visiting with family and friends there as well. Sunday was church and serving which is always a highlight in my week.  Gets me pumped up for the week!
